Andersen Boutique Hotel is a family-owned Boutique hotel in a trending Vesterbro district. I visited this hotel in August, during famous Copenhagen Fashion Week. I searched for a centrally located modern hotel and I found the Andersen. I loved many things about this place, however the prime location was essential for me. Everything from the hotel was located either in a walking distance or required 1 or 2 stops by metro. So I wouldn’t have to loose time between the fashion shows.
Design of the place was so beautiful and colorful. Staff was lovely and helpful and I enjoyed every moment of my stay. In the past I stayed in the sister hotel of Andersen, the Absalon hotel. That is why I was sure that stay in Andersen Boutique Hotel will be also exceptional. In the end it actually exceed my expectations. Without further ado, let’s dive in to the full review.
About the Andersen Boutique Hotel
Andersen Boutique Hotel is one of the most popular independent hotel in Copenhagen.Just like Absalon hotel it was founded by Erna Andersen and now is run by her grand-daughter Karen Nedergaard. This hotel with over 80 years of history was recently refurbished and now is part of HIP Hotels. It is an iconic collection of unconventional hotels. Hotels with a personality and charm.
Currently hotel has 69 rooms and suites. Each features a different type:
- Cool
- Brilliant
- Wonderful
- Amazing
and style:
- PRINCESS: A stunning combination of vibrant purple and striking Magenta provides an elegant, yet warm atmosphere
- MERMAID: Complementary shades of vivid turquoise and lime reflect the soothing elements of water
- EMPEROR: Calming blue and vibrant magenta add a touch of almost regal luxury
Location of Andersen Boutique Hotel
This hotel with no doubt has one of the best locations in Copenhagen. It is located in Vesterbro, one if the most attractive neighborhoods in Copenhagen. There are many nice restaurants, cafés, design stores and clubs. I love its beautiful architecture and food markets. Especially fruits and vegetables ones. Full of organic, delicious products.
Last year Lonely Planet named Vesterbro as one of the top 10 coolest neighborhoods in the world.
Which is well-deserved. Atmosphere at Vesterbro is truly exceptional.
It is very easy to reach hotel from the airport. It took me only 12 min by train to arrive at Central Train Station and then few minutes to reach the the hotel. After few minutes of walk I saw most stunning buildings across the street. It was the historic Absalon Hotel and modern, lifestyle Andersen hotel.
Ambiance
This hotel is an oasis. A safe place that offers comfort and adventure. It’s a new luxury place with personality. Decor in the hotel is a big surprise for the guests. Lots of colors, quirky decorations and a little retro feeling. Just like Absalon Hotel interiors were decorated by British Designers Guild designs. Their designs are known for their bold statements and colors. I the lobby there is a lot of seating area, with nice comfy sofas and chairs. Interesting lighting and board games.
What I found so cute was few large teddy bears sitting on the chairs. It’s super fun, not only for children. When my son saw my pictures with the bear asked to take him there imminently 🙂 It’s a children magnet for sure.
The lobby is a large, inviting lounge area. It’s where guests are welcomed to relax during the day, helps themselves with a coffee or play games. I could sense amazing Hygge vibes and I felt myself at easy over there.
What was truly unique and very Scandi in my opinion was the Wine Hour at Andersen. Everyday from 5pm to 6pm guests are invited to enjoy a free glass of wine in the lobby lounge. Me and my friend Marzena were over the moon with this little custom. It’s nothing big, but honestly it was so nice! It can be a reason itself to stay in this hotel.
Apart from the board games in the lounge there is a knitting basket. All items made there will be donated to homeless people. What a great initiative.
Above I added picture of a staircase. It has the original design, very Scandi. It’s most likely one of few interior elements that reminded me that I am in Copenhagen. Simple, aesthetic and white.
The Rooms
I had a pleasure to stay in beautiful Amazing Junior Suite, room number 37. It was decorated in the ‘mermaid’ colors: turquoise and lime. Room was spacious (27 m2) and had an additional sofa, that can turned into a bed. There were Philippe Starck fittings and nice pictures of Copenhagen. Room had nice flat TV, wi-fi, iron and a cherry on the top: Nesspresso coffee machine with coffee like caramel ristretto, lungo or espresso.
I liked the view of the street that was so representative to this amazing city. With white beautiful buildings and some coffee places downstairs.
There were robes and slippers in the wardrobe and it was a lovely touch. Everything to make guests at home.
Bathroom was not very big, but it was big enough. Towels were nice and thick and there were my favorite hotel’s toiletries from Molton Brown. A true luxury and best fragrances.
Something that I only found in Copenhagen is concept24. This means that you can keep the room for 24 hours from the time you check in. It’s absolutely useful and smart. I have a feeling that this kind of smart systems can only be invented in Scandinavia.
Price for a single Room starts from 700 DKK ( 94 Euro)
Junior Suite- 1450 DKK (194 Euros)
It is affordable hotel. Considering sizes of the rooms and design, it’s a great value for money.
Breakfast
Breakfast at Anderson Boutique Hotel was simple and delicious. Until today I brag to my husband about the bread I had at the Andersen’s. Honestly it was best bread I had since ages. Apart from the famous bread 😉 there were all other continental-style, organic treats. Cereals, pastries, fruits, cheeses and cold cuts. Plus there were warm options like: sausages, eggs and pancakes. Breakfast was served in the lounge and bar changed to the Swedish style buffet. Guests could seat anywhere, even on comfy sofas. It was very effortless, yet stylish and delicious breakfast.
Sustainability
I came to Copenhagen for the fashion week, that is also known as Sustainable fashion week. Sustainability is very important to me and I even studied this subject at Copenhagen Business School. Coming to the city like this I expected nothing less than incorporating conscious lifestyle into the daily life. That is the reason why I opted to use bicycles in the city as my transport. Andersen Boutique hotel offers bicycle rental at very affordable price: 130 DKK (around 17 Euros) per day.
Another concept that they have is CONCEPT GREEN idea. They are Green Key Certified and wish to reduce environmental impact. They offer gifts if guests decline housekeeping during the stay. There are bar or bike hire vouchers to choose from.
Family-Friendly
Even though I stayed at Andersen with my friend, as a mom I looked at the family friendliness aspect. What I noticed is : some bikes have children seats, rooms have sofa-beds that can sleep 2 children and lounge area is a paradise for little humans. You can easily bring your children with you, they will love stay at Andersen’s.
Summary
I loved my stay at Andersen Boutique Hotel and would be happy to come back in the future. There is a friendly staff, beautiful rooms, comfortable beds, delicious breakfast and more. Everything is so hygge and comfortable.
I would recommend this hotel to:

Please let me know in the comments if you have already been at Andersen hotel or if you would like to go in the future.
